Lion King: Part Two

"Everything the light touches is our kingdom."

Simba and Nala enter the elephant's graveyard.

Mufasa (Caleb) comes in and scares the hyenas.

Simba running from the wildebeest.

Speaking of Simba.  He is played by a small boy from an important family, so there were body guards on each side of the stage during the performance.

Fun job, right?  You have a big show going on behind you, but you have to continually look for threats in the crowd.

Mufasa jumped in the middle of the wildebeest to save Simba, and then tried to escape by climbing up the side of the canyon.

Caleb enjoyed the part where he fell back onto the canyon floor.

But after running so much with the wildebeest, Caleb said it was hard to make his chest stop rising and falling when he was supposed to be playing dead.

His sisters had to cry over him....he probably didn't mind this part either :)

Kylie and Karis came out with their little lionesses for a dance.

The Lion King: Show Time

A lot of our year is spent preparing for a Spring performance, so forgive me for the next few posts where I chronicle the night of April 26, 2019.

Meet Mufasa, two lionesses in his pride, and a little mouse named Keira.

Mufasa and young Simba

"Rafiki's momma" starting the show with an incredible voice.

It was a beautiful parade of animals.

Kylie and Karis are the two lionesses in the middle of the sun.

Then the mice came on  (Keira's gymnastics class)

Cutie pie!

Scar catches Keira by the tail so he can have a "snack."

ESCAPE!

Mufasa and Scar face off.

Now on to Act 2

Steps to the Stage

After Caleb had done his voice recordings for Mufasa in December

at these fancy recording studios,

December 2018

the next step was trying on costumes a couple of months later.

 February 18, 2019

Caleb also had a trial run on make-up at a salon two weeks before the performance.

Keira had a mouse and a flower costume to try on.

And Caleb had his first try with a mask made for his Mufasa character.

But after so much work was put into this, it was obvious that this one would not be the best fit for him on stage.

 April 19, 2019

At the first dress rehearsal, Caleb was able to put on his full regalia.

I must note that 85% of the costumes made for this entire performance were made by refugee women who are making a living for their families by sewing at a non-profit, and this is the lady who employees all of them.

They did an AMAZING job!

Scar and Mufasa

Some talented man designed this mask on short notice, and it worked beautifully.

On the last night of rehearsal, you can see how well Caleb's mask stands out on stage.
