Doug's 40th

November 2nd

This is a late post, but I just realized I never posted about Doug’s birthday.

It was the big 4-O, and we wanted to make it memorable.

It started with homemade cinnamon rolls. Sorry for the picture, but I'm always amazed that I can do this kind of stuff without a can from the grocery store.

The kids and I were torn between a 40-clue scavenger hunt (as suggested by our lovely friends in Madagascar) or a 4-clue hunt.

We went with the FOUR clues.

The kids wanted there to be puzzles and problems Doug had to work out, and then they changed their minds. They wanted the puzzles and problems to be so that THEY could work them out for their daddy.

Clue #1: itunes cards from Winterset Baptist Church (thanks guys) in the then un-finished crate box.

Kylie, Karis, and Caleb all took turns doing some of the math problems before Doug got to figure out the next clue.

Clue #2: Dr. Pepper and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos n the back yard on the water tank. Doug had to do a word find.

Clue #3: An insect “bat” that electrocutes mosquitoes on contact. We hid it in the guard house. As it is with most birthdays, the kids were more excited than the parents. Can you tell how Karis is dragging Doug to go faster?

Clue #4: Roasted coffee beans from here in Arua in a drawer inside the house.

I made Doug peanut butter cookies for his birthday “cake,” and we headed off to White Castle, which is the nicest place in town to eat.

We met some friends there, and had a good visit.

I had a “4” from Caleb’s last birthday, but no Zero, so I made a “T” out of 2 smaller candles.

Anyone who has taught their children math with the Math-U-See curriculum can appreciate my “FOUR-T.”

Happy Birthday, Doug! I hope you enjoyed it.

Your kids did.
